MUN Project
In this project we were addressing the Afghanistan Humanitarian Crisis. We were each given a country that was involved in this problem. We researched our country and figured out what our country would want to do in terms of helping the people of Afghanistan.
MUN Reflection
Throughout this project I have learned a lot of things and a lot of them I will take with me for the rest of my life. One of those skills that I will take with me is being able to listen and understand what people are saying. For example in the conference when people were presenting their speeches I could clearly understand what their topic was and what their goals were. This will be helpful later in my high school career because if we are to present speeches I will be able to understand what they are talking about. Outside of school this skill could be very useful, for instance at work if a customer has a complaint then I need to be able to understand what their issue was and then try to figure out what I can do to help that customer feel like they are getting good service.
It was all hard, but I was successfully able to work through those challenges. One specific thing that was difficult for me was writing research part 2 and having to find the correct information for my country. However I was able to get through it successfully and in a way that I felt was my best work. Another thing that I found hard was writing the speeches. I had to find the correct information to put into the speech and write it in a professional manner so it sounded like I was actually the country that I studied. Finding this information was very difficult but I was able to use resources that I had previously written to help me find the correct information.
In the conference I ended up voting for China, Russia, and Afghanistan's resolution. I did this because My goal was to help the people of Afghanistan by importing resources such as food, water, and shelter. It turned out that they had a similar goal so I joined forces with them and we ended up coming to an agreement. In the end of the conference, our resolution ended up winning.

Turkey Policy Paper
Turkey wants to help the Afghanistan people overcome the Humanitarian Crisis and minimize refugees.
Afghanistan is in crisis because the Taliban took over the Afghanistan government completely after the US pulled their troops out. The first big problem is that a lot of Afghans are trying to leave the country. This is causing other countries such as Turkey to take in refugees. The second major part of the problem is that there is a very bad food insecurity which means that there is not enough food for everyone in the country. Another problem is that there is a lack of medicine and hospitals so people cannot treat sickness or injuries, the last thing is that Afghanistan is facing a very big economic crash.
One major problem Turkey faces is refugees. Turkey does not want refugees from Afghanistan because it already has a large population of refugees. But they want to help the Afghan people. “Turkey currently hosts 3.7 million Syrian refugees, the world’s largest refugee population, in addition to about 300,000 Afghans. It has been reinforcing measures along its eastern border to prevent crossings in anticipation of a new migrant wave from Afghanistan"(3). Turkey does not want to take in any more refugees because it already has one of the largest populations of refugees in the world, so they do not want to have even more refugees enter the country. Why there are so many people fleeing Afghanistan is because of ever intensifying conflict/war, “There are nearly 6 million Afghans who have been forcibly displaced from their homes. Of those, 3.5 million are displaced within Afghanistan; 2.6 million are Afghan refugees living in other countries.” This conflict has also caused a humanitarian crisis
Turkey supports Afghanistan with humanitarian aid because they want to help the country and its people survive and prosper. “The Turkish government has adopted a pragmatic approach toward the recent events in Afghanistan. Underlining that new realities have emerged in Afghanistan, Ankara said it would move forward accordingly while keeping communication with all relevant actors open”(3). Humanitarian aid is very important because the act of giving food, water, medicine, etc. to survive gives them a better chance for living.
Overall, Turkey is giving support to the Afghan people through supplying humanitarian aid. “Turkey's ambassador to Afghanistan assured humanitarian aid for the war-torn country as he met the interim Taliban administration's deputy foreign minister in Kabul on Wednesday, according to a statement by Taliban officials” (1). Turkey is giving aid through the Taliban administration but this is not a long term aid. They will continue to give aid until the interim Taliban government is replaced for a more stable government.
Turkey has been giving aid to refugees by providing food, money and other supplies. “In cooperation with Pakistani and Afghan red crescent societies, Turkey delivered approximately 3 tons of food aid to 800 families in need in August, and 4 tons of food supplies to another 800 families early in September, said Kinik” (4). Turkey will continue to deliver food to families in Afghanistan to further help them overcome the crisis. “With the cooperation of their Afghan counterparts, the Turkish aid institution has been granting funding for the immigrants to run their own shops suitable to their professions, such as bakeries, grocery stores, and barbershops” (4). Turkey is also giving refugees money so they can open shops and buy their own food to help them get on their feet. This will help the Afghan refugees not rely on the Turkish government for aid.

Poetry Project:
Poem:
Growing up, I lived for walking in the woods at night
The unknown rustling in the bushes
Fear and anticipation coursing through body
I lived for danger, risk, excitement
I lived for being in the mountains
Tasting the fresh air with every breath
The sweet smell of ponderosa sapp
I lived for skiing, biking, camping
Growing up I lived for getting lost in the woods
Lost like a stick floating down a creek
Not knowing where i'm going,
Not having a destination
I lived for late night campfires,
The wood smoke stinging my eyes,
Talking until the embers glowed dark orange
I lived for walking with no shoes
Feeling the rough gravel on my feet
The soft dirt,
The cold stone, like burning ice
I lived for treehouses
The fresh smell of pine wood,
I lived for climbing
until my hands were calloused and sore
All this time later
I still want,
To disconnect
To disappear
To adventure.
The unknown rustling in the bushes
Fear and anticipation coursing through body
I lived for danger, risk, excitement
I lived for being in the mountains
Tasting the fresh air with every breath
The sweet smell of ponderosa sapp
I lived for skiing, biking, camping
Growing up I lived for getting lost in the woods
Lost like a stick floating down a creek
Not knowing where i'm going,
Not having a destination

All this time later
I still want,
To disconnect
To disappear
To adventure.

This poem talks about how I grew up and the experience
I had growing up that shaped me as I got older. One thing that inspired me to write this poem was What For by Garrett Hongo. It is an age poem that talks about his life growing up. I used the same kind of format for my poem. Another thing that helped me write this poem was that I have a lot of memories from my childhood and growing up with my family and friends.
In this poem I used some poetic devices. One poetic device that I used was sensory imagery. This helps the reader understand what I felt, smelled, heard, saw, as I was growing up, for example, “I lived for walking with no shoes, Feeling the rough gravel on my feet, The soft dirt,
The cold stone, like burning ice”. Another poetic device that I used in my poem was simile, I used this to help emphasize imagery that I put into the poem, for example, “Lost like a stick floating down a creek”.

Growth as a Poet Reflection:
My first draft poem was just about my childhood and was not very relevant to who I am today. After I got feedback from Lori and peers I realized that I needed to add more. So I added the last stanza to make it more relevant “ All this time later
I still want,
To disconnect
To disappear
To adventure.”
This makes it so it shows the reader how all the experiences that I had shaped me as a person today. This last stanza is still relevant to me because if I feel like taking a break from social media or something like that I will turn off my phone and go for a walk or a bike ride, just to disconnect for a little while.
One change that I made between my early drafts and my final draft is putting sensory detail and imagery into the poem. For example in my first draft the lines “I lived for late night campfires
Talking until the embers glowed dark orange” did not have a whole lot of sensory detail in it so I added “The wood smoke stinging my eyes,” to add something that a lot of people have experienced so they can really imagine what it would feel like.
Another change I made was making the ending pull the reader back in. In my first draft the ending was “I lived for the outdoors, I lived for adventure.” which was not that interesting. I decided to put more in to make it more interesting. My final ending that I came up with was “All this time later, I still want, To disconnect
To disappear
To adventure.
This change”
This change made it so the reader was left with a sense of closure. It also brings back the idea of “adventure” that I used previously in the poem.
